Room/Halo

Duration
 Approx. 22 minutes

Room/Halo began with the image of a guitarist sitting alone in their bedroom, absent-mindedly playing without any particular destination, before gradually imagining an accompaniment that begins to come to life.

The piece is an ode to my younger self and to the world of the bedroom guitarist. As the piece unfolds, pre-recorded electronic layers emerge from the guitar and are gradually joined by the live ensemble, blurring the boundary between imagination and reality.

The electronics consist of recordings of the live instruments that have been processed into something more distant and dreamlike. The ensemble imperfectly mirrors these sounds, creating shifting layers of heterophonic lines that drift in and out of focus. At times the guitarist is left alone; at others they are surrounded by an imagined band that threatens to overwhelm them.
