S.H.R.

S.H.R. is built from open strings and harmonics struck with chopsticks on the electric guitar. Written for percussionists, the piece treats the guitar as a resonant percussion instrument, using only this limited palette of sounds.

The music moves between shared pitches, overlapping swells, interlocking open-string melodies and repeated chords before arriving at a final climax in which the harmonics climb ever higher into the instrument’s upper register.
